UUC's Solar Panels

Through a serendipitous cooperation with Allegheny College Professor Ian Carbone and his students, the United Unitarian Church (UUC) on the Diamond was able to install solar panels on its roof. The project was funded by MeEd/Penelec Sustainable Energy Fund of the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. A student-led energy audit and grant program provided the logistical and financial help for this first-of-a-kind project in downtown Meadville. As of early 2023, the 14.8kW array will be installed and start offsetting about 80% of the church’s electricity use. UUC wants to put its faith principles into concrete action and sees the solar-panel installation as commitment to a livable future and climate justice.
